[TenTec] Heil wiring

I've got a Heil HMM wired for 4 pin Kenwood. The cable has both shield and 
a black ground wire. TTs have only one pin for ground. Should I solder the 
black ground and coax shield together or should I just let the shield float?
I don't know much but I'm always interested in learning so explanations 
would also be welcome.
