My reasoning mistake as I stayed in the loop due to high possible AGC
threshold of 200 uV.
This is some 60 dB of linear gain on 0,2 uV but it can be achieved with
analog circuits.
I can see now more Orion problems in the digital domain :-)

I can assure you, Carl is right Mario. Preamp on/off certainly affects
S-meter reading but that's nothing to do with the AGC threshold control.
