I don't understand why PTT is so important. Wouldn't QSK
with amp be better? I've heard big gun contesters double
with inexperienced ops and then go on there merry way,
thinking they have a contact, but maybe not. I'm not a
contester but I do listen a lot. If has already been
discussed that foreshortening of the first character at 60
wpm would be imperceptible at 30 to 35 wpm (the usual
contest speed - go faster than that and you'll be very very
lonely). So, Why wouldn't computer keyed QSK with QSK amp
be the best contest station?

Casual contester here. Field day only and use a Delta for that at a club station. But, I can see how the PTT would be useful in some setups. As for computer... Will eventually use one for logging if I can ever find/write some code that lets
me interface to the thing with the paddle ;-)

Really nice if the PeeCee could say the guys call if it's a dupe. If he's in the passband and strong, even if I'm not trying to copy him at the moment, it saves having to look him up and the strain of remembering. As for calling a guy, it would be nice if the computer would take the call from the paddle, repeat it if it's a dupe, and if not, go ahead and make the call when I send a 'K'. even better would be option of keying a 'G' to send a full exchange like w2nra de ah7i K, or a 'K' to just send de ah7i or just ah7i.

To be a bit more clear. Say I hear w2nra workign someone. He's weak so the PeeCee can't copy him. I think I might snag him so I key 'w2nra' with the paddle. If he is a dupe the computer says something like 'w2nra' or 'w2nra DUPE you idiot'. It's good to say the call so I remember I've worked him. If not a dupe, then all I have to do is wait until he's finished and send a 'G' or a 'K'. If I hit G or K again, (missed him first time with the 30W to the vertical) then it repeats the call. If he replies, then the computer saves the exchange.i.e. QSL 525 WNY ur 569 HI. Then when he acks the info, a .. sets things
up for the next QSO.

Is there such an animal out there or should I try to find time to write my own? Would
like to do more contests if it was less work :-)
