Well... the Omni VI/VI+ uses a 10 Mhz master oscillator (either a crystal
oven or TXCO, depending on model), so... couldn't you bring in the external
10 Mhz reference signal and use it in place of the oven/TXCO-supplied 10 Mhz
reference?
Someone who is better at electronic design than I could surely design a
simple circuit that could allow for an optional external 10 Mhz source,
defaulting to the internal 10 Mhz reference in its absence.
I have found that with the BFO xtal mods and TXCO, my Omni VI stays within a
couple of hertz of WWV once my rig is warmed up, so I don't know how
essential the external reference would be... but it would be cool and that's
why I like dinking with radios in the first place.
