Hi Don -

Heck, I just sold my OMNI-C, and I'll just have to plan to find another one some day! It is a neat rig. I'll miss the thing, I've had 3 over the years. I think my goal may be to find a beater Delta I, since that rig will handle 17 meters and has the fine QSK of the OMNI.

If you don't use the model 218, 1.8 kHz filter in the OMNI (and it is particularly awful sounding in the older OMNI in my opinion), I'd pick up one of those little 4 pole SSB filters from the Argosy or the Corsair I and stick it into the 1.8 position in the OMNI-C. That can become the main filter position and the blowby is cut way down (if you hear above 3 kHz much you'll notice the blowby from nearby strong SSB stations). A cheap way to tighten up the wide filter position. The model 220 8 pole SSB filter will do the same thing, I have a spare here that came from my OMNI VI (I use INRADs in there) and just stored the model 220 in my OMNI-C. Worked very well.

I've never worked on the covers before. I hope we arrive at the right solution, I'd sure like to have that information for the next OMNI-C I pick up in the future.

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know if the faux leather contact paper
covering can be found anywhere. I suppose the aluminum
could be painted easlily enough but it seems to me
there would still be a source for this (black)
covering material.

BTW - as the recent posts indicate, there is a new
OMNI C at this QTH and it is just a fabulous rig with
lots of character and charm. It's much like the
Corsair II, it's a rig you really enjoy having in
front of you.

TenTec was quietly manufacturing these unique radios
during a time that I was fully committed to Kenwood
then Icom. Now that amateur radio has changed and I
find myself focused on CW, it sure is great to "find"
these great rigs and at an absolute bargain to boot!

Thanks es 73,
