Does anybody have any info on how to adjust R27 and R31 on the 5-5.5 mhz PLL
board?

The serial input from the microprocessor comes into pin 1, U3 on the 5-5.5
PLL board. Where does this come from? I can not find a number 87 connector
on the Logic board.

Does the rotary encoder connect to connector 98 on the Logic board?

I have both, and would have to say they are, as close as my SUBJECTIVE ears can tell, identical. The advantage is that the Jupiter has RF gain control capability, which the Argo does not, helping out some with strong signals.

You are correct, but according to Duffy's post this e-mail was in reply to
his inquiry about why his radio hadn't arrived with the next days Fed Ex
delivery. It was not initiated by TT.

Secondly, you have to allow that your experience in industrial purchasing
gives you a viewpoint different from the average consumer.

Thirdly, if an item is advertised for sale by a retail outlet, whether via
newspaper, handbill, internet site, or whatever, you as the purchaser have a
reasonable expectation that the item is available at that time. Remember,
industrial and consumer purchasing deal with different protocols. Recall
also that abuses by certain retailers have resulted in legislation requiring
that retailers have on hand stock of advertised items sufficient to meet
expected demand. We have all had the experience of seeing an item (digital
camera, computer, ham radio, or Coca Cola advertised by a retailer. We go to
their store to buy the item and are told "sorry, we're out of stock. We'll
have more next week." Frosts my tukus. Maybe you take a more philosophical
view and remind yourself that you should have "taken ownership of what
happens to your life."

Fourthly, having to wait for an order is not the issue either. We all have
to wait for orders whether the wait is overnight or 6 or 7 months (see
original Orion orders). The point is a customer should be advised if his
wait is going to be longer than expected. What is your own experience? You
place an order with one of your suppliers. In good faith he tells you
"You'll have it in a week." Later he finds there is a problem and you will
not have your order for three weeks. Do you feel he has an obligation to
notify you? Or is it up to you to "be proactive and make sure things go your
way"?

Many websites I use or peruse will flag items that are out of stock. Most
also advise the expected date it will be available. It is not a difficult
task to accomplish, and to me is now the standard of customer service for
internet ordering.

My sole point is, there is good customer service and bad customer service.
It is not a matter of "turning control of our lives to others" it is simply
learning on whom we can rely and on whom we cannot. That is how I spend less
time being disappointed.

73 Bob K4LW

If you read Scotts reply he told us that he emailed the bad news the

morning

following the order. Further you ask how many people inquire about stock
status of their ordered goods. From my industrial purchasing experience I
always do. Assuming in stock status for all we order any more is a recipe
for disappointment. I am not aware of anyone who stocks enough of
everything to guarantee no customer will ever have to wait.

I think we have choices in life. One is to take ownership of what happens
to our lives. In that mode we have to be proactive and make sure that
things will go our way. Another route is to turn control over to others

and

take what we get. I prefer the former. Less time is spent being
disappointed.

On the logic board schematic, top left corner, 1" from the left, 2" from top there is 4 pin connector, unmarked, it is 87 with signals marked from the top: CLOCK, DATA, EN and Gnd connection.

Does the rotary encoder connect to connector 98 on the Logic board?

Yes, shown on the wiring diagram (last schematic)

Field day wasn't too thrilling here, either. Lots of mosquitoes from the
recent rains drove me out of the park after only about 3 hours. The
bands were really crummy on Saturday, too. I didn't even bother to
string up my 80 meter 1/4 wave wire, but I did try the rapid deployment
16 foot whip on the Explorer's roof rack. With that and my trusty Scout,
I was on the air in 10 minutes. At least the gear worked, but I finished
out FD from home with the Scout in the back yard or indoors running on a
gel cell. Not real Field Day, but I did get on the air a little.

My pet gripe: Computers taking over the logging, sending and CQ'ing! It
puts those of us like me who don't have a Laptop PC at a disadvantage.
Where are all those cheap laptops? I haven't seen any under $400.

Oh, well, wait 'til next year!

2. Bands sucked.

3. Upgraded my Ten Tec Argonaut V to newest firmware the night before the

Drawing current, but nothing out the antenna. One very kaput Ten Tec
Argonaut V. (yes! did the master reset several times!) Radio heading back to

4. Took out back up radio. One very new Icom 703 QRP rig. Hooked up
everything and WHOA! It won't can't change frequency with the main tuning

Hi All

I also have the Jupiter and Argonaut V. They are very close however I like
the Argonaut V better. The Argo 5 does not have an RF Gain Control but I do
not miss it. The Argonaut V has an 200 Hz filter and the Jupiter only goes
down to 300 Hz. The control program in the Argo 5 is newer and works very
much like the Orion, at least that is what I feel after reading all the
reports on the Orion here on the reflector.

The one big menu on the Jupiter is hard for me to read and at times hard to
find what I am looking for but with the Argonaut V each item I want to
change is only two key storks away, for example, if I want to change the
VOX Hang time all I have to do it hit the function button and then VOX.

Both are good and fun to operate, the fun of QRP CW on or around 14.060 has
to be one of the greatest things I have ever done in the last 23 years in
the hobby and I have operated QRP at least 18 years of that time.

Back to The Buzzard Roost.

Ok, what is THE method for powering up a Corsair II?

Do I turn ON the PS 961 with the Corsair power switch
already ON? The 961 will NOT power up without the
Corsair being ON. So that is what I have been doing.

But then, when going QRT, should I reach over and
just switch OFF the 961, leaving the power switch
on the Corsair at ON? Or, turn OFF the Corsair
switch, which will also "kill" the power on the 961,
or 962 should I happen to be using that one at the
moment?

Whish switch can handle the most current? The one
in the Corsair II, or that over on the Ten Tec power
supplies?
