Experts on the TT reflector:
I have two OmniVIs, both upgraded to option 3. The first I have had for some
time
and it apparently has an early S/N (1A10533) while the 2nd one is newer
(40A10...).
The older one will 'fold up' on signals within 5 kHz or so that are "20over S9"
strength.
Pushing the attenuator cleans it right up, of course. I didn't know that
wasn't normal
until I got the newer rig. It is rock solid to 40 over S9. As a trip to
Sevierville is both
expensive for shipping and possible rig damage in-transit, I am asking the
collected
experts if there is something obvious I should check for a possible home repair
effort.
The only time this affects me in practice is with some big stateside signals
when DXing
on 40CW to Asia in the morning: K7XB will consistently overload the older rig
from
his SLC QTH!! I haven't noticed it on the other bands yet. BTW: the above
narrative
assumes CW, of course, and folding up means the signal itself sounds poor and
so
does everything around it.
