Oh, there are better supplies than the Astron. But at a much higher cost.
While a 50% failure rate is out of anyone's range of acceptable, I'd say
that in reference to "He said they had a 50% failure rate with the Astron
switcher." might be due to their inspection and acceptance policy. Not
necessarily that the power supply had actually failed.
I bet if you look inside the Alinco you'd be surprised as to the mfg of the
power supply.
