Well, before anyone gets too exercised about Japan Inc cutting prices, this
morning's exchange rate was just over 116 yen to the buck. That compares to
137 just last fall.
At that rate it would have taken $1460 to buy a 200,000 yen radio a few
months ago. Today it takes $1720 to buy the same 200,000 yen rig.
The exchange rate is expected to continue to drop, raising the US prices on
import items and lowering the price on our exports. That's good if you want
to keep your job, and bad if your only interest is the cheapest rig possible.
But if the exchange rate continues to drop it's a major disaster for
YaeComWood because it reduces their sales, and gives American companies a
chance to enter the market.
