A couple of comments.
I haven't used an Argo V, but from what I've heard the
Argo's receiver holds up amazingly well in tough condx
- better than I would've expected. This is why I
referred to it as an "overachiever." I use the same
term when I refer to my little Force12 C3S, which
performs better than any 12 foot boomed tribander has
a right to perform. I use the term "overachiever"
affectionately, as a term of endearment.
As far as my comments about the FT-920, some friends
who are contesting veterans report that the front end
holds up quite well in tough condx. From John's
comments, and others I've seen on e-ham, I suspect
John and a few others had defective radios. The ARRL
test results also support this hypothesis.
