No matter what testing might show; it is well established in technology that
operations, which are very subjective; may well determine the technical
success of a product. And in the end, ham operators are among the most
subjective persons, sometimes with the wrong concerns, (10 Hz frequency
display minor digits), and sometimes because they have a certain "ear";
liking a certain sidetone for CW, etc. A certain roll off to a SSB mike and
audio chain, the response of a certain speaker.
The classic example of subjective acceptance triumphing over technology, was
the Beta vs. VHS recorder formats. Beta was demonstrated to have the better
specs, but was sourced by one maker. VHS was technically inferior but an
open standard, and took over the market and is still successful for
recording/playback around much of the world.
Nothing beats trying something out to see if it fits your own needs and
wants.
One of the problems with the Yaecomwoods of the world are too many bells and
whistles requiring having a manual at hand to operate the controls due to
non intuitive features.
-Stuart K5KVH It is nice that Ten Tec has a generous trial period policy,
and one can always return a product that does not meet your need.
