Hi John -

Thanks for the detailed reply. First, I am working with my FT 817 for field use. I can get the 300 Hz or 500 Hz Collins mechanical filters for the CW position, but I need to go back and see if I can put the filter in line for any more and how that works. There is a CAT program that might solve my problem. After that, I plan to upgrade my OMNI VI for these modes, so your info is very useful to me. Where do I find MixW and do you know if they have a Mac or Unix version? I'll go search on the net to see what I find.

What radio are you using?

With my Omni VI/Opt1 I use the 9 Mhz 500 Hz RTTY filter for PSK31 and find I get great results with it. I've written a macro in MixW that centers that
signal in the filter passband and then selects the narrow filter. It's
great when I find a very weak trace on the screen that is being hidden by
stronger signals... the formerly weak signal suddenly becomes very
decodable.

I have tried the other filters, and have found the 6 Mhz 250 Hz filter to be of use as well, and have another macro set up for it. But, I find that I can combine passband tuning with the 9 Mhz narrow filter and pretty much get
rid of any interfering signal.

Hope this helps,

I plan to try out some digital modes and wonder if 500 Hz filters are
the narrowest reasonable bandwidth to use. Would a 250 Hz filter rule
out PACTOR? I haven't operated these modes but want to try, thinking
about filters.
