[TenTec] omni 6+ rs-232 chip failure???

has anyone lost the rs-232 chip in a 6+?  my rig quit talking to my
logging program, and i've checked the port on my computer which works fine
talking to other hardware.  i tried a different rs-232 cable.  i did a
hard reset of the omni and then made sure the baud rate and id were set
properly.  before i go to the trouble to borrow a scope to see if the
max232 chip has indeed gone away, i just wonder if anyone else has had a
similar problem?  thanks!
