THAT is a VERY good question.

Or more to the point, why isn't there a standard Ten-Tec command set that each radio must talk, and if it cant execute a command, it spits out an error or closely approximates the action (i.e. synchonous AM)

Or even better...a standardised amatur radio command set?

I know I know this isn't professsional, military radio technology we're using, but maybe we should strive for that kind of usefulness.

Ohh...sorry. I'll wake up now, and go play with my knobs and wheels.

I just took a look at the programmer's reference manual for the Argo V.
Two things surprised me. The serial port baud rate is 1200 baud!
And different from the pegasus and jupiter, to set a different transmit and
receive frequency, you set vfo B to the transmit frequency, VFO A to
the receive frequency, and send a command to turn on split. In the pegasus,
you just set a transmit frequency and a receive frequency. Why is it that
every tentec radio has a different command set requiring unique programming
to control it?

TenTec has posted an update (version 1.01) to the Argo V firmware on their
website

http://www.tentec.com/rfsquared

Here's their description of the update:

V1.01 12/5/02 Maintenance release

Fixed EEPROM write bug which caused intermittent SPLIT LED.
Now ignore SCAN key during KEYR or VOX key menus.
Fixed bug: Both VFOS out-of-band, BAND key seemed to stop working.
Changed reset default for VOX HANG from "1" to "0" to enable QSK.
Finalized RS-232 interface command set and Programmer's Ref. Manual.
Fixed bug which could cause incorrect VFO A frequency on powerup.

The programmer's reference guide is also available at the same site,
although I was unable to download it this morning (I kept getting a 404
error)
