Good idea Bill!!! I've removed the foam rubber then remembered reading about drilling a hole in the back of some had mics which some tmes also improves the quality of the audio....did both mods and on another receive sounds ok, now looking fer a ham friend familiar with the way it sounded before and judge if the audio has improved!

Will let ya know if they judge it better or not....

Hello Ed,
Open up the mike and remove the piece of foam rubber thats in front of the
mike element.
It looks sort of like an ear protector.Makes a whole lot of difference.
