Gary, AA2IZ, notes,
""battery booster" DC to DC converters.
They take whatever power is available
and level shift the voltage up to 13.8.
... But be advised that these devices
lose energy in the conversion process..."
Yep. Conversion efficiencies run around 90+%,
but the boost isn't free.
A danger with the boosters is that one can
run lead-acid batteries down too low
(< 11-10.5Vdc)for their health.
One needs to monitor the battery voltage.
In addition to W4RRY's high power (23A!) boosters
http://www.fastq.com/~w4rry/.
N4UAU has some more qrp-level (<=3A) boosters
http://n4uautoo.home.sprynet.com/
I'm hanging onto my Argonaut 509
(with enough 515 cards in it to make it a "511")
in addition to the 516 (future).
Cheers, 73,
Ron McC.
