Carl and the group,
When the Scout was designed, there were 3 terminal regulators that required
a larger differential of voltage to regulate stability, than the low drop
out regulators that came later. I have proposed to some Scout owners who
wish to use 12 V batteries to take a look and consider substituting low drop
out regulators that could track down to lower voltage. Of course, the lower
main voltage will cause the current consumption to rise, and heat removal
must be adequate or you stress high current stages. Never had time to go
completely thru the schematic, to see if this was feasible. Any stages
operating at 13.8 volts should be able to go down to 12, but how much more
is a question.
