Re Argonaut V:
With its triple conversion essentially, you can operate the first IF at
optimum, and then follow that with AGC stages that make a separate RF gain
unnecessary.
Most modern radios with "RF" gain, are actually controlling gain in the IF
stage.
With good dynamic range designed in the front; you do not have as much
concern with close in signals blocking. (Several new owners have reported
on good immunity to adjacent channel strong signals.)
The Scout uses fixed "RF" gain, and I have not missed the variable gain.
A mod exists for changing to a pot for the Scout gain, possibly this could
be done on the V.
