Hi,
Stan Brock sent me the following yesterday:
"Regarding the S-meter in the Orion. It will be the same S meter
as is used in the RX-340 with the exception that you can choose
the way the meter reads in a menu so you can have it like you
want or change it."
His reference to "like you want" is the way the meter in the
340 operates: independent from the RF/IF gain setting.
The "traditional" way, is that the S meter needle rises toward
max as the system gain is reduced.
I would ask Stan this on Monday, but thought I would ask those
who may have had a good look at the S meter on the Orion
at the Hamfest, or elsewhere. The RX-340 meter has two
scales:
1. A dBm scale running from -140 up to +10 dBm.
Note that -140 dBm is a level of 0.02uV another 13 dBm
on down from S0 at 0.1uV.
2. A scale just below dBm scale which is the traditional
S unit scale running from below S=1 ( which is about
-121 dBm, or 0.2uV) up to S9+80 .
The most recent Orion front panel photo I can find, is that
by Bill, W4WBT ( his shot Roll7-17) at the N 9V V web site.
That photo seems to show an S meter that is NOT the "same"
as the 340 meter, at least the scales appear to be different.
Maybe Stan means the same physical meter, but not necessarily
the same scales and range?
Anyone know for sure today. I can, of course, learn Monday
from Stan, I suppose. Anyway, gave him my Orion order via
e-mail, but was late in the day Friday even Hawaii time,
so guess TT sales won't see it until Monday either. Wonder
what delivery they might quote now.
Anyone in the market to buy an RX-340/Pegasus set up
with interconnects to use N4PY control software? How
about someone to buy my Corsair II with the companion
remote VFO, #263G. All units in #10 cosmetic and
operating shape! I have the factory shipping boxes for
each item, and original TT manuals. Need to sell this
stuff, or trade in toward the Orion with the added
goodies I have specified in the order, hi. Of course,
will sell the 340 and Pegasus separately, the more
probable sale anyway.
