John;
I initiated a REPLY ALL here so this is not absolutely directed to you but
as general information to all on the reflector.
I have a recent OMNI VI+ which has a TXCO. I run a lot of PSK31 and RTTY.
I don't have a drift problem that causes a problem. I don't have to retune
nor do I have to tweak the PSK31 tone to stay on the QSO. I guess I'm just
lucky and have an "outstandingly stable" OMNI VI+. Also, I'd comment that I
run the rig conservative on both modes. Typically 25 watts output. If I
want some power I add SOME Serious POWER with a BIG legal limit class C
continuous duty external amp. (It's an old 1KW AM broadcast transmitter.)
Or the table top Centurion provides some 350 watts output with 25 watts of
drive on 20M. In most all cases, the 25 watts from the Omni is more than
adequate.
