I think someone needs to do a nice transverter to convert one of the ham
bands
to the new 60 meter band. This would solve the problem for any radio that
does
not have that band.

I think one could take an old heathkit DX60 and use it as the basis of
making a transverter
for the band. I once took and old DX100, changed the finals to class AB1,
and
made it into a transverter that took 21 mhz in from an old Heathkit hw100
and
converted it to 1.8 mhz. I used a 19.2 mhz crystal, an oscillator module
from
international crystal (when they used to make little kit project boards),
and a
mixer board also from international crystal. These boards made the receive
section.
For transmit, I brought the 19.2 mhz crystal signal and the 21 mhz ssb early
into
the dx100 signal path and tuned the dx100 for 1.8 mhz. This worked very
well.

My point is the new band is an opportunity for all of us to use our real ham
radio
ingenuity and come up with some interesting ways to get to 5 mhz.
