I've had good luck with the audio on the 705. But wanted a boom mic for
contesting, ended up with the Heil HM10 Dual (HC4/HC5), which doesn't quite
drive the Pegasus or the Omni V with enough oomph, so I've used either a
W2IHY audio equalizer (the small one, kit) or, most recently, a little audio
amp that I built from schematic in the 2002 ARRL Handbook using a TL081
op-amp. Cost about $5.00 to build) Either seems to work fine. I didn't want
to go into my Pegasus and change the audio gain control, because the 705
worked so well with it the way it was.
