There's absolutely no problem at HF for BNCs at 100W. I have a Waters
MIL wattmeter that reads to 2000W that uses BNCs... not that I'd
remotely consider putting that much power on it. BNCs have their
boosters (I'm one) and their detractors. I once worked with a guy who
formerly worked for Grumman Aerospace. As part of the F-111 design team,
he ran a SERIOUS spectrum analysis vs. impedance of most all of the
modern connectors... and found the BNC connector beat 'em all. That
includes the type N and UHF. The only connector better (up through
microwave freqs) was the SMA.
A caveat to this however, is that this study included effectively a
statistical analysis of CRIMPED cables-and the likelihood of a good
connector / cable being made on average. Admittedly (SOME) hams pay more
attention to their cables! But for ease of connection, I have almost all
BNCs all over my station and SWL/scanners/etc. and love 'em.
