Thanks for all the replies....overall winner is adding the second 500 Hz filter an waiting for the 250's. That's the way i am going...thanks again to all the Hams that took time to respond

Unless you are going to use your rig as an IF strip for moonbounce (I
did with an Omni-D) or 160 meter CW, you will find the 250 Hz too narrow
to be very useful.  Stacked 500's (or 400's from INRAD which is what I
have) give you the right passband for contesting (you don't miss 3/4 of
the guys calling you off frequency), and with the PBT you can pick off
one guy only when need be.
