Dr. Jerry: I agree with your comments. However, based on my
experience with open wire line on 80 and 40 meters, no such
occurance ever happened during rain or fog; even with ice and snow
on the transmission line and antenna. The only time I ever noted a
change in the swr was when a storm broke the tree linb holding my
antenna and one end fell about 20 feet. As a matter of fact, it was the
strange swr reading (lower than the normal) that caused me to go
outside and that is when I found the trouble. This was after I had
several hours of qso's with one end of my antenna laying on the ground. - 73's
