I think that Larry's problem stems from two sources:
1. He is using the Pegasus for work with digital modes - one of the
fastest growing areas in ham radio today - and has found an artifact in
the output of the receiver which *may* degrade or even prevent the
operation of a digital comm program with the radio. He evidently feels
that the artifact precludes his use of the radio for his intended
purposes.
2. He made clear the nature and extent of the problem and was mollified
by being told that it was being passed on to some vague group of DSP
Programmers. But, the problem was not improved or corrected, nor was any
hope given that it would/could be.
Now, maybe Larry expects too much for what he has put into the radio - I
suspect that is pretty close to the truth. In that case, there is at
least one other digital radio that does not present the problem he has
uncovered.
But, when any user/customer makes knows the presence of a problem that is
preventing him from obtaining the performance from the product that he
reasonably expected when he bought it, and the company responds by
handing off the problem and effectively ignoring it, then the bond of
trust between customer and company has been strained if not broken,
regardless of the amount of money involved. That bond should not rely
upon the number of customers who present problems - one is too many.
While it is somewhat vague as to the final "deal" worked out between
Larry and TenTec, and is none of our business, if in fact they did accept
the radio in return, then there is at least a tacit admission that not
all was right.
Let's cut both Larry and TenTec some slack. He had every right to
complain, even though 99% of Pegasus users don't know what the problem
is, and TenTec has every right to deal with their customers and their
alleged design problems however they see fit.
