No particular recommendation, Bill - I have used an old Icom
IC-730 for
many years in a variety of vehicles. Presently in the Holiday
Rambler
Imperial 37.
Just one serious, and I mean SERIOUS, recommendation for you:
PLEASE DO
NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT OPERATING HF WHILE YOU ARE IN MOTION!
If you are new to motorhomes, you will soon find that you need to
keep
your full attention on the driving 110% of the time. In my case,
when I
have the tow car behind I am dealing with over 11 tons rolling
down the
road at 60-65 miles per hour. There is no room for twisting dials
and
trying to head-copy CW or whatever.
Enjoy the mobile when you are all parked and set up and can devote
the
attention it demands. But, please do even think about turning that
radio
on while you are driving. Operating 2 meters or CB is a different
situation since you are only working a mic button and occasionally
changing a channel. But, the operator effort involved in HF
operation is
just more than I am willing to siphon off from the driving task.
Have fun!
