Scott,
I thing you have experienced a true to life, dyed in the wool, official,
GLITCH! If everything is back and running don't worry, I wouldn't even
try to guess what caused it and if there is a real problem it will come
back. There have been a few times my Omni-V has tried to trick me,
sometimes it was my fault by going half cocked crazy trying to set up a
split in time to get a DX and pressing too many buttons at once. One time
I was running off a "friends" power supply that had a real strange
current cut out at about 15 amps switching on and off very fast which
blew out the software chip and I had to replace it. (By the way if any
one is running an Omni-V and has not upgraded to the version 5 software
you may want to think about getting it and keeping your original as a
spare. To check look at IC7 on your logic board it should say what
version it is, As far as I know #5 was the last one ). There was a time
the rig was jumping about 1.5 Kc not showing on the display but just
jumping in the VFO or something and to clear it I had to switch VFOs a
few times. After trying reset and master reset with no luck I was
thinking about getting a new software chip then I tried one more thing.
Turned off the power, pulled the backup battery and using a wire jumper
connected to ground, I kind of swept it along all the ICs and components
on the logic board grounding every pin as I went. Leaving the battery out
and holding in the clear button I turned on the power. All the LEDs on
the front panel came on at once then went off I heard 2 beeps then
released the clear button then I installed the backup battery. This was
over 2 years ago and I've not had any glitch, jump or any problem since.
Happy Omni-fiveing... 73 -Jeff- aa8ve
