Joe, hams who Elmers help are known as Elmos. I coined this term many years
ago and have been using it ever since. It seems to fit the bill nicely!

I am not sure if I asked this here, and if I did sorry for the repeat!
I honestly do not remember any answers if any were offered.
Ok an "Elmer" is a ham, that helped beginner Amateurs get on the air, or even
long time Amateurs, the "Elmer" helps them try something new.
So we have a Nice name "Elmer" for this helper person.
But the people that this "Elmer" helped, what is a good name for them?

I'm sorry for asking about something that most likely has happened to every
single contester there is.
I think that everyone had an "Elmer" at one time or another.
And I needed a suitable name for the person that benefited from the "Elmers"
Help.
Sorry...

I like the name Elmer because it's so specific to hAM radio. My personal Elmer
was named Shirley although he was very much a male. On the air he
would tell people his handle is "Shirley like Shirley Temple." My
girlfriend got used to me saying I was going to hang out at Shirley's.
He used the inheritance from his father's death to buy a Collins S line.
Sweetish rig ever. Hams would come from miles just to look at it. Two other of
his Elmers and I bought him a kW linear. After he died, I bought his Collins
microphone to go with my KWM 2A and for fond memories.
Collins is still the queen of all ham dreams.
