I've been a ham for 65 years and always thought it was neat that with a small
box on my desk and a simple wire antenna I could contact another station in
some far off, exotic place. I never considered the importance or not of who was
operating or not at the other end. I don't now, either. Just the fact that my
own radio signal made it over all that distance. That's amazing.

others could sit in the comfort of their chairs and claim SOTA. Hmmmm.
Maybe there is logic to all the OTAs requiring a transmitter and operator
onsite.
