Steve N2IC says "Please explain the circumstances that N1MM doesn't put you
into run mode immediately."
The obvious answer is when you don't use F1 or any other key to let the
software know you are running. For me that happens in SSB contests.
I'm not much of a phone contester and every time I try to build a library of
voice messages either I screw it up and it sounds crappy or Windows changes
sound cards or file paths - I don't often use .wav files/Fkeys in SSB.
I do leave Spot All when S&P on and occasionally screw up when I am flying
along in a S&P rhythm where every ALT-A finds someone just finishing calling
CQ, and then hit an abandoned run freq and I will do the QRL thing and start
calling CQ without remembering to let the software know.
Not blaming the software, purely my bad. I usually notice very quickly just by
the rate jumping from zero too fast and look at the radio buttons in the Entry
window and go oops.
Its embarrassing, but to me less embarrassing than sending out really crappy
recorded messages all contest long, My New Year's resolution will be to dust
off Audacity, make a good set of files and start 2023 off right. That will mean
I'll even be able to turn ESM back on in SSB tests without crashing the
software after every QSO - at least until the first non-well behaved Windows
update...
