Different contests may have different exchanges. The exchange or RS(T), QTH
is very common. You will also encounter RS(T) Age; RST (Year
first-licensed), RST Grid-Square, to name just a few. You will also find
that QTH might not be state. ARRL contests usually ask for ARRL sections.
Many states have multiple sections. QTH may also be either the CQ or ITU
zone.
This is why it is important to always read the rules for a contest, or, at
a minimum, check out the WA7BNM Contest Calendar website. It's frustrating
when they ask for RST CQ-Zone and you don't know your zone.
