Is there a way for me to measure the noise?
No easy way to MEASURE it, but there are several suggested methods in
the app note on my website about Building Contest Scores by killing
noise. One of "go-to" noise probes is a vintage Kenwood TH-F6A talkie,
which has widband RX, from either a built-in loopstick or the coax
conector (defaults to the loop below 10 MHz, the coax above, but can
switched in software). The RX is a block of wood, but it works well
close up to noise sources. My starting point is just above the AM BC
band, in AM mode, and I probe around the suspect. If it hears noise, our
antennas probably will too. Several other radios are listed, as well as
SDRs that can function as a poor man's spectrum analyzer.
