Sad news about Dave K8CC becoming a SK. I believe that he was the developer
of the NA contesting software. He was also a contributing member of the
ARRL Contest Advisory Committee for many years.

With sadness we pass along that Dave Pruitt, K8CC, became a Silent Key on
December 29.? Dave's brother Tom, WB8VMN, reports that Dave passed away
peacefully and in no pain.
Though slowed in recent years by health issues, Dave was a very significant
contributor to the contesting community. He was a long time member and past
president of the Mad River Radio Club, author of the NA contesting logging
software, a log checker for the ARRL 10 Meter and 160 Meter contests, and
chairman of the Michigan QSO Party. He built and operated, both as single op
and multiop, a very competitive contest station in Ypislanti, Michigan.
Dave's obituary is at:? ??David Alan Pruett Obituary - Visitation & Funeral
Information (uhtfuneralhome.com) The Zoom meeting mentioned there will be
held at 1:00 pm EST on Monday.

RIP,? OM.

Very sorry to hear this news.

Dave was editor of the National Contest Journal for several years. First
while I was publisher and then when the ARRL took over the publication.

He was a guy who got things done.

RIP OM

Hello and HNY to all,

I have an annoying problem with N1MM and RTTY. Everything works well until I
click on a spot. The transmitter ( IC756PRO ) jumps to the correct
frequency, but the filter automatically changes from narrow to wide. Any
thoughts on correcting this problem?

Sorry to hear about Dave. He was one of the most enthusiastic members of the
Mad River Radio Club back in the 1980's and 1990's. I lost count how many
times he was president. I operated contests from Dave's many times in the
Multi-Ops he hosted. We even used my call from his station in our
1998 and 1999 M/M efforts in the CQ WPX SSB contests. In 1980 when I drove
to the Detroit, MI FCC field office from Cleveland to take my Extra class
exam Dave graciously let me stay at his house the night before.

I considered Dave to be a good friend. The last time I saw him was maybe a
couple years ago at the Hamvention. He hadn't been on the air in contests
that much in recent years. The few times he was in a contest? I would say a
quick hello and have a short chat to ask how things were going. I'm very sad
to hear that he passed at such a young age. BTW here is the direct link to
his obituary -

. RIP K8CC.

In shock at hearing this news.

Dave was a very good man and a friend for the last 45 years or more. I met
him when he attended John Brown University in my home town. He had just
developed an interest in contesting.

I spec'd and he designed an SO2R box for me in about 1975. Among other
features it had the option to automatically put the headphones on a second
T-4XB/R-4B when the clock was running on my Accu-Memory keyer and later K9CW
keyer. Along with that and a program he wrote for a Radio Shack color
computer to dupe logs (before NA or any computer logging), I felt like I was
the king of high tech because of his knowledge.

He honored me by choosing me as his Team Mate for the WRTC in 1996 in San
Francisco - a thrill and lasting good memory.

He was an inspiration.

Rest in Peace, Dave.

Sorry to hear this. The greatest thing that Dave Pruitt, K8CC, did was to
keep the original CT contesting software alive long past its use date. As
told to me by Dave himself, CT author K1EA wrote his CT software to support
only the major contests and was not interested in upgrading it to include
QSO parties, etc. Maybe that's because hams pissed and moaned that they had
to pay $25 for the original CT (which was a BRILLIANT bit of software
writing).

K1EA gave K8CC the source code for CT, Dave wrote the new code, and his NA
software breathed new life into the program. Thanks, Dave, and R.I.P.

Well said, Jim. As one who used both CT and NA for many years, (and who
still lives in a cave clutching TR Log to my aging chest), thanks to Ken and
Dave for CT/NA.

Very sad to hear this.? Dave had been inactive recently but was once a real
beacon of activity.

I loved his NA software - I used it for years.? It had everything I ever
needed in a contest logging program.?? I would still be using it if it
worked with Windows.

He once invited me to spend the night at his place so I could get a good
start the next morning a MIQP mobile run.? I got to see firsthand the great
station and antenna farm he put together.

Dave's MIQP write-ups were real masterpieces and set the standard for QSO
party write-ups.? They are still available on the MIQP website.? He also
knew how to run a meeting and keep people involved when he led the Mad River
Radio Club.

Dave will be missed by many.
