Lets also remember that hams are accustomed to using Mike Delta instead of
Maryland because a ham who is from Slovakia may not know that Maryland is
Mike Delta. Just like a ham in the USA is not accustomed to the fact
that Khabarovsky
kray is HK in Russia. Or that Marion County, Florida is MAO while Martin
County is MRT. It simply saves time having to explain it and helps ensure
the other station has an accurate log.
As to cut numbers, like Randy when working UA stations on certain bands, I
often resorted to sending my serial number twice - once in full and once
with a cut number (0, 1 or 9) to help the receiving station hear what was
being sent.
