It's a one time thing when you start using the amp -- you train the
tuner to your antennas, then when you TX on a frequency it recalls the
settings you've trained. And it can remember 3 settings for each output
for each band, so you can switch antennas external to the amp and the
amp will follow.
Yes, the range of the amp is SWR at the output connector. The tuner
typically burns 0.5-0.8 dB, and the power meter internal to the amp is
between output stage and tuner. I read power with and without tuner with
an LP100A (which reads true power) a few feet of coax downstream of the
output connector.
