John Nelson, K0IO, died Sunday, August 4, 2019, at home in Kellogg, Iowa.
He was 72. He was a low-key guy, below the radar, so probably not
well-known in the contest community. But he was an active contester and
DXer, and a good CW operator, and K0IO is in lots of our logs over the
years. His previous call signs were W0DRE and W1GNC. John worked at ARRL
headquarters from 1970 to 1995, in the circulation department. I met him
there in 1973 and we were friends to the very end. I think he was one of
the original Murphy's Marauders members in the early '70s. His knowledge of
ARRL history and folklore was peerless. He was generous to a fault, if
that's possible. R.I.P., John. -- Jim Cain, K1TN
