There was a time (pre vanity system) when the 610 form had a blank where
one could request a call they held previously. There was no guarantee you
would get it. My novice call was WV2ZOW, upgraded to WA2ZOW. Then, in the
late 70s, FCC did away with novice calls, license was up for renewal, and I
asked for my novice call back and got it. Now WV2ZOW, and it is NOT listed
as a vanity call. A pain most of the time, but worth a few dB in the prefix
