Bob,

I went back and reread the thread from last year, and while some folks respectfully disagreed with you, you were not "dumped on".

Can someone explain what the 2B1 category is ? 2 radios, 1 operator. SO2R ?

Ed,

You are about to discover that you will be dumped on, like I was last year
for asking the same question, by the folks who wrote this rule. Get your
flak jacket firmly zipped. ;-)

This antiquated rule must have personal and political origins designed to
remove innovation sharing from FD. An SO2R setup CAN'T transmit on 2
frequencies at one time so I would agree with your assessment that SO2R
would be allowed and encouraged to promote the innovative education that FD
is all about. Lots of guys never get to see what an SO2R station looks like
and FD is the perfect, no pressure "contest" to see it in operation. The
way the "octopus" rule reads is that one guy is keying multiple transmitters
simultaneously (i.e. NOT interleaved). Now that is crazy but I guess
somebody did it and thus the rule was born. The current rule really only
limits the method used to switch bands. If you have a guy with a quick
wrist that can switch your manual antenna switch back and forth really fast
between contacts, THAT is OK but if you use an electronic means for that
switching, the supposed intent of this vague rule apparently wants to
eliminate the electronic method of doing the same thing.

Good luck and have fun at FD!

It is hard to understand what the intent of these rules are. Is
traditional SO2R operation allowed? It kind of seems so but is hard to be
sure.
