RF Ham Radio Contesting has a new entry coming from a new hobby, Internet
Contesting. This new hobby uses a part of another hobby, Ham Radio, but
has moved far enough away from its cousin to have a new title. Everything
that is done in contests can be done by Internet/Computers... creating
entries, finding entries, recording data, and--with appropriate software
and willingness to use it-- making and confirmations of contact. The RF
portion of the activity has dropped to less than 30%, or made it totally
unnecessary, ushering in the new hobby.
The difference between fuel dragracers and motorcycles applies ... both use
motorized and wheel-based vehicles and race, but the contrasts mount up to
say they are two different things.
Coping with this new cousin's evolution *from *Ham Radio is the new
challenge of leadership in contesting. I say, GL.
