Dear Fellow Contesters,
The CQ WW Contest committee (CQ WW CC) wishes to thank the over 14,300
entrants who submitted logs for the 2011 CQ WW contests! Many entrants
demonstrated their skill by winning one of the approximately 2600
certificates awarded. The results of the CQ WW SSB contest were made
public recently. The UBN/NIL reports of both SSB and CW were also made
available to contesters on cqww.com.
After the publication of the August issue of CQ and the release of
individual reports, contesters wrote to questions@cqww.com questioning the
loss of some QSOs from their final score. Their questions prompted the CQ
WW CC to review the reports. It was discovered that a programming error had
occurred and some calls should *not* have been removed. A recalculation of
the full results for SSB and CW revealed a slight increase in many scores.*

*
The *corrected,* *final official results* for the *SSB *CQ WW contest have
been posted on the *CQ magazine web site *(see below). Coordinated with the
corrected, final official SSB results, *new UBN/NIL SSB reports have been
uploaded to cqww.com* (*NO new passwords are required*).
Anyone who has dealt with contest log checking realizes that considerable
variability could exist within the final results. It is the job of every
adjudicating team to make every effort to minimize variability in judging
technique and provide a standard against which all received logs are judged.
*CQ magazine has made the following public announcement:*
A programming error in the software used to analyze logs submitted for the
CQ World Wide DX Contest has resulted in errors in final scores for some
participants in the 2011 CQWW DX SSB and CW competitions. These errors were
discovered after the results of both competitions were sent to the printer,
so some results published in the August and September issues of *CQ** *will
be incorrect. However, only one SSB certificate and one CW certificate (out
of approximately ~2600 awarded) was affected by the error, and with the
new, corrected, results, all affected stations' scores went up, not down.
According to the CQWW Contest Committee, "approximately one QSO in a
thousand was marked as a bad call in error. This occurred when two similar
calls, for example W1GD and W1GQ, were logged within three minutes of each
other and only one of the stations submitted a log." The problem came about
as part of a recent software upgrade, so no previous CQ contests are
affected. It has now been fixed, so future contests also should not be
affected.
*Corrected, final scores for the SSB weekend are now posted on the
CQmagazine website,
cq-amateur-radio.com. Corrected scores for the CW weekend will be planned
to coincide with the release of the September digital edition, on or around
September 1, 2012.
*
We will make additional announcements when the CW corrected results have
been posted online.
CQ regrets any inconvenience resulting from these errors.
-----
*We appreciate very much the attention shown by contesters to their results.
Working together with the CQ WW CC and CQ magazine, entrants have made
their voice heard.
*
*
*
Please submit your log for the 2012 CQ WW contests no matter how large or
small. Every submitted log makes the log checking process more accurate. If
you have any questions, please ask via questions@cqww.com.
*Reminder: * In the next few weeks CQ and the CQ WWCC will issue
directives concerning the above information and other subjects. In early
October, the CQ WW CC will give a live webinar. More specific information
will be provided at a date closer to the webinar. You are invited to
attend.
Thank you,
Bob, K3EST
Director CQ WW CC
