Real life 2010: I was running monoband, high power 75 meters in the CQWW on
Friday night, transmitting on about 3812 and listening down, after having
checked the frequency. About 15 minutes later I was called by a J39 (nice
mult) on my listening frequency who said that my loud signal (nice to be
complimented) was spilling over onto the Hurricane Net. This was not
"classical" emergency traffic as there was no emergency yet, but in fact a
hurricane was approaching these islands so they were properly concerned. He
asked me to qsy up a few which I did without hesitation. A few minutes
later I was called by a J88 (another nice mult) who asked me to qsy up a few
more, which I promptly did. No problems after that and everyone was happy.
On Saturday evening there were no problems as I avoided the frequencies
around 3815. Contesting is only a game and should never take precedence
over important communications. And if you're loud, they find you even if
you're up around 20 or 25. Saul K2XA
