No.

SS has its' roots in the ARRL traffic handling community, and the rules
reflect that heritage.

We >could< change the rules to make the exchange "fye nye foe". And we
could further simplify it by removing the meaningless "fye nye". And even
further, since "foe" can be automagically calculated by most popular
software packages, we could throw that away too.

But then it wouldn't be SS, would it?

EI5DI> SS is not a stroll in the park...

No, it isn't. It has a lengthy exchange of mostly unpredictable elements
requiring more attention to copying than some other contests. That emphasis
on "Radioman Skills" (tm) is what makes it a favorite of many. Some
participants have made the point that the already-known callsign provides a
convenient breathing space/placeholder which helps them keep up with rapid
senders. One might be able to argue that eliminating that element would
thusly make the contest even harder.

Not to mention that the rule nicely trumps those induhviduals who "save
time" in other contests by sending their own call only at long intervals.

Sunnuvagun! It's a pretty darn nice rule after all!
