For the record, I am NOT trying to subvert the rules and I totally
resent that reprehensible implication. If I was interested in
subverting the rules I'd just do it and not say anything to anyone.
I've never done so and I never will.
I AM interested in understanding how I can become a more proficient
operator, though, and my questions that started this thread were
entirely in that context.
Consider this .... for unassisted operation I can legally have CW
Skimmer running in Blind Mode on my desktop and use it purely for its
excellent waterfall display. No text or callsigns are displayed, but I
can easily determine visually which traces are signals and which are
noise or clutter. I can have CW Skimmer set up to control VFO B on my
rig, and while running running stations from VFO A in N1MM, I can use my
mouse to click on one of the traces displayed by CW Skimmer and my VFO B
will jump to that frequency. It's all legal, and it is easily set up.
The ONLY differences between what I just described and what I
hypothesized as a blind mode for N1MM are:
1. I'd be able to use the keyboard to change the frequency of VFO B
instead of having to move my hand over to the mouse.
2. CW Skimmer would determine for me (with probably less accuracy)
which traces were stations and which were noise/clutter.
If point number 2 equates to assisted operation, fine! I can accept
that and I have the answer to my questions. I'd rather know for sure
than sit here trying to guess.
