In most competitive activities (running, jumping, lifting,
throwing, racing), everyone can see how everyone else is doing.
Depending on how well you're doing, this could be an incentive
for the others to try harder (bad?), or could discourage them
from trying harder (good?).
One significant feature of real-time scoring is that it helps
to make contesting more of a spectator sport (good?).
