While I have no experience with the TH-3JR, I have been pleasantly surprised
with the performance of the A3S. As I tried to do SO2R with one tower, I had
an A3S fixed to the west at 30 ft on the 75 ft of 25 supporting my KT36XA
and 2 el 40. While in my situation it was too close to the upper antennas
for SO2R, I was surprised at how well it did work. I've since pulled the
large antennas off the tower and moved them out to the NR4M contest station.
In turn I replaced the big tribander with the A3S and the 2 el 40 with a
rotatable dipole. They're not as effective as the larger antennas, but just
the same work surprisingly well. AA5AU has done tremendously well with a
pair of A3s in rtty contests in the past.
