In order to get the country multiplier for the U.S., I have to make a
zero-point QSO on each band. I may need to make a zero-point QSO to get
the zone multipliers for Zones 3, 4, and 5. I try to work multi-op
stations in my own club for the country mults and VE stations for the zone
mults, but that strategy doesn't always work perfectly.
The more a loud station runs, the more zero-point QSOs it will attract from
ops who simply need the mults. Of course, that is far from the whole
story, and I have no data on the percentage of zero-point QSOs with running
stations that fall in that category. A certain number of ops are unaware
of the rules, surely more than the ones who make duplicate zero-point QSOs.
