I'm sorry to disagree, but there is a difference between "contest" and QSO
party. As a matter of fact, in the three pages of descriptive in December
QST, the word "Contest" is not even once mentioned. And on page 90 it is
written:
"While some may disagree, Field Day really isn't about score. It is about
things far more important"
And, oh, by the way, VHF CONTESTS really do count in my estimation. But I
believe you missed my point, which was: ARRL doesn't find space anymore to
publish international contest results, however it finds plenty of space for
domestic "operating events".

But, lo and behold, in December issue, no less than 12 (twelve) pages
dedicated to ARRL Field Day, 4 (four) pages for June VHF QSO Party (which
isn't even a contest) and 2 (two) pages for January 2005 contest
announcements (four contests of which three are domestic).
The ARRL June VHF QSO Party is definitely a real contest. For most of
North
America, it is the highest-participation VHF contest of the year. Or do
VHF contests not count in your estimation?
Seems like a good value for money, isn't it?
