23? That's nothing! When I was still associated with my college club (both
as a student and then as an alumni working in town) we always through people
for a loop with a check of "12" -- since 1912 was the first year Amateur
licenses were issued by the US Government...
(and it's a pet peeve of mine that today's ops at said college station don't
know that since the station dates back that far -- original call 8XE -- they
ought to be using that check, not whatever year the come up with a
ridiculous reason to justify, but I digress...)
Which does bring up an interesting dilemna. 2 digit Sweepstakes checks are
fine for another 8 years, but come 2012, we overlap the dates when we hit
the centennial of those first government issued licenses. Does it matter?
Should we go to a 4 digit check to distinguish "1912" from "2012?" YMMV,
VWP, and remember, we have 8 years to figure this out, assuming BPL & the
Zoning Nazis don't have us all QRT by then.

Hey Mike
We all asked to make sure we had heard you correctly. I'm sure most of us
thought with a scratch of the head did I hear that correct.
I'm sure I would have questioned it if I was the least bit suspicious. Now
for those sending CK of 13 I suspect that they were asked the same question
and we knew they were probably a club station.
