...great stuff from DF4SA:
"To me as RADIO operator it sounds like utterly NONSENSE
to make self-spotting legal."
...as they said in the sixties:
Right On Brother!
This is still amateur RADIO and the thing that keeps many still attached
to it is the radio aspect - I question how many who are satisfied with
the high tech aspect will loose interest over time. K3ZO is still
kicking butt right and left and to a YM he probably is somehow so low
tech he is at a loss... of course Fred also understands that contesting
is and always will be a battle with warriors and while the young may
have their gadgets it is the cunning old masters who usually will out -
even if they do not have their computer sending their CW!
You can take the packet out of contesting but you can't take the radio
out of contesting!
Operators rule, dude!
K4OJ
note: All great operators were once YM's - and many of them have gone on
to do things like threepeat in WRTC! I can remember watching a young
WA1QNF (I was young then, too) riveted to a conversation another ham was
having about how K1ZND (K1ZZ) can be beaten... that was about 30 years
ago... I wonder how many YM's are talking about how K1TO can be beaten
today :-)
